This 1966 Chevrolet Impala SS hardtop was sold new by Casselman Motor Company of Grantsville, Maryland and is said to have remained with the original owner’s family until 1992. Finished in red over a black interior, the car is powered by a 396ci V8 mated to an M20 four-speed manual transmission and a 3.31:1 rear end with a limited-slip differential. Other features include an AM radio, console-mounted gauges, power steering, and lap belts. The seller purchased the car in 2017 and has since replaced the radiator, battery, wheels, and tires. This Impala SS is offered with service records since 1992, manufacturer’s literature, a 1966 dealer-inspection sheet, a warranty Protect-O-Plate, magazines and newsletters featuring the car, uninstalled suspension parts, and a clean Tennessee title in the seller’s name.
The car was reportedly refinished in the factory Regal Red (R) in 1992. Exterior features include bright trim, chrome bumpers and side mirrors, pillarless doors, and a factory-tinted windshield.
Rallye SS 15×6″ wheels and Firestone redline tires were installed under current ownership and supplied by Coker Tire. The seller notes that an uninstalled set of new shocks and coil springs is included in the sale.
The interior is trimmed in black vinyl (813) and was reupholstered under prior ownership. Amenities include a factory AM radio with a rear speaker, lap belts for the front bucket seats and the rear bench, and optional auxiliary gauges and a clock mounted in the center stack.
The two-spoke steering wheel fronts instrumentation including a sweep-style 120-mph speedometer, a fuel gauge, and a 6k-rpm tachometer. The five-digit odometer displays 16k miles and is said to have rolled over; the seller has added approximately 4k miles.
The Turbo-Jet 396ci V8 was factory rated at 325 horsepower when new. The seller replaced the battery and installed an aluminum radiator that was powdercoated in flat black prior to installation. The previous radiator was re-cored and is included in the sale.
Power is routed to the rear wheels via an M20 four-speed manual transmission through a 3.31:1 rear end with a Positraction limited-slip differential. Additional photos of the underbody are provided in the gallery below.
