This 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu convertible underwent a custom build that was completed in 2012, and it was purchased by the current owner in 2017. The exterior was refinished in silver, the interior was reupholstered, and a fuel-injected 7.0-liter LS7 crate engine, a Tremec six-speed manual transmission, and a 12-bolt Positraction limited-slip differential were installed. Additional modifications include 17″ Halibrand-style wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, a modern air-conditioning system, custom interior treatments, Art Morrison suspension components, Wilwood brakes, and more as described below. This Chevelle convertible is now offered by the seller in Pennsylvania on behalf of its current owner with service records and a clean New Jersey title.
Delivered new in Regal Red (R), the body was repainted silver during the refurbishment. A black convertible top said to feature Mercedes-style material was also installed, and additional features include two-tone pinstriping, a vented hood, dual mirrors, and SS badges. The seller notes an imperfection atop the convertible fabric, a close-up photo of which is provided in the gallery below.
Staggered-width 17″ Halibrand-style wheels are equipped with three-eared knockoff-style hub covers and are fitted with Nitto tires measuring 245/45 in the front and 275/40 at the rear. Wilwood calipers are fitted at all four corners and paired with slotted and drilled front rotors, and the suspension is said to be modified with components sourced from Art Morrison.
Black leather upholstery with channeled inserts cover the front and rear buckets, which are separated by a full length leather-clad console. Additional modifications include a Vintage Air climate-control system, a Hurst shifter, an Ididit adjustable steering column, power-adjustable front seats, and an aftermarket stereo system.
The multi-spoke steering wheel fronts Dakota Digital gauges, including a digital odometer indicating that 5k miles have been driven since completion of the build. True mileage is unknown.
The fuel-injected 7.0-liter LS7 V8 is said to be a crate engine that was installed during the build, and it is equipped with a chrome air intake and conical air filter along with ceramic-coated exhaust headers linked to a 3″ stainless-steel exhaust equipped with MagnaFlow mufflers. Additional equipment includes a PRC aluminum radiator fitted with electric cooling fans and custom treatments for the engine covers and firewall, the latter of which features a replacement cowl tag. The removed factory cowl tag is shown in the gallery below.
Power is routed to the rear wheels via a Tremec six-speed manual transmission and a Positraction 12-bolt rear end with 3.73:1 gearing. Additional photos showing the underside are presented in the gallery.
