This Chevrolet Impala SS hardtop coupe reportedly was purchased by the seller’s father from automotive artist Dave Bell’s father during the 1970s. It is powered by a non-original Chevrolet 327ci V8 paired with a Muncie four-speed manual transmission. The car was repainted 40-plus years ago in silver and features a black roof over black upholstery, and Dave Bell applied custom paintwork to the dashboard when his father owned the car. Additional modifications include a stainless-steel Magnaflow exhaust system, a Hurst shifter, a custom rear-seat tonneau, and a tuck-and-roll-style trunk compartment. This customized Impala is now offered with service manuals, spare chrome pieces, a California Car Cover, and a clean Minnesota title in the seller’s mother’s name.
Per the seller, the factory data tag indicates that this Impala was originally finished in Desert Beige, although the car has retained this silver and black repaint since the seller’s father acquired it more than 40 years ago. The car has reportedly been stored indoors, and some cosmetic blemishes are highlighted in the photo gallery below, including a rust spot on the driver-side base of the rear windscreen. Extra chrome trim will accompany the sale.
Chrome 14″ Cragar wheels are mounted with 225/70 BFGoodrich Belted T/A tires, and each corner can be seen in the gallery. A chrome spare wheel mounted on a vintage Firestone tire is present in the trunk compartment, which reportedly many years ago received the tuck-and-roll-style trim treatment shown in the gallery. The Magnaflow stainless-steel exhaust system was installed approximately five years ago and features dual-outlet tips.
The cabin is trimmed in black. Under previous ownership, Dave Bell reportedly applied a custom copper/gold metallic paint job to the dashboard and steering column, as further showcased in the gallery. A custom Chevrolet-branded tonneau cover for the rear seat is also demonstrated in the gallery.
This Impala has power windows and retains turned-metal accents on the dashboard face and radio. The seller notes that the heater core is disconnected and wiring for the tachometer and radio currently needs sorting. The five-digit odometer shows 96k miles.
The small-block 327ci Chevrolet V8 is said to be newer than the car, and it has been dressed with a chrome air cleaner, valve covers, and fan shroud. In 2018 the battery was replaced and an engine oil/filter change was performed.
Additional underside pictures are posted in the gallery.
The numbers “1447” on this Impala’s body tag indicate that it is a factory SS model originally equipped with a V8 engine.
