This 1963 Chevrolet Impala is a 2-door sport coupe which reportedly remained with the original owner until 1978 and the second owner until 2014, when it was acquired for the current owner’s collection. Finished in Saddle Tan over a Saddle cloth interior, the car is powered by a 283ci Turbo-Fire V8 backed by a 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. Work in 2015 included rebuilding the carburetor, re-coring the radiator, and replacing the water pump, thermostat, universal joints, and shocks. This third-generation Impala is part of the 25-vehicle, single-owner collection currently featured on BaT. It is now offered at no reserve in New Jersey with recent service records and a clean Maryland title.
The body is finished in Saddle Tan (932) and is shown up close in the photo gallery below. Paintwork has been carried out on the passenger-side door.
The 14” steel wheels are finished in body color and wear Chevrolet hubcaps along with Guardsman III All-Season whitewall tires. New shocks were installed all around in 2015, and an alignment was performed at that time.
The interior features a front bench seat and Saddle cloth upholstery protected by clear plastic covering. Additional trim includes matching door panels and loop carpeting, along with a color-keyed dash and steering wheel. A Delco AM radio is retained in the dash.
Instrumentation includes a horizontal-sweep speedometer, and the 5-digit odometer shows 49k miles, 1,000 of which have been added while the car has been in the current owner’s collection.
The 283ci Turbo-Fire V8 was rated at 195 horsepower when new and is mated to a column-shifted 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. Work at Emerald City Automotive in Gaithersburg, Maryland in 2015 included rebuilding the carburetor, re-coring the radiator, completing a differential service, and installing a new water pump, thermostat, universal joints, brake hoses, and headlight bulbs. An oil change, chassis lubrication, and inspection were also completed at that time.
Corrosion on the underside is shown in additional gallery photos. The video below includes a walk-around and tour of the interior, as well as a view of the engine running and a ride along.
