This 1958 Chevrolet Impala convertible was refurbished in 1997 and was placed in long-term storage in 2008 before being acquired by the seller in 2022. Subsequent work included rebuilding the carburetors and replacing the fuel tank, fuel lines, brake lines, hoses, belts, and tires. The car is powered by a 348ci Turbo Thrust V8 mated to a three-speed manual transmission and is finished in white over red vinyl upholstery. Features include a powered black convertible top, a red convertible top boot, power steering, power brakes, rear fender skirts, Coker Classic whitewall tires, spinner-style wheel covers, and three Rochester two-barrel carburetors. This first-generation Impala convertible is offered with manufacturer’s literature, an issue of Super Chevy magazine featuring the car, service records, and a clean Missouri title.
The car is finished in white and is said to have been repainted during previous ownership. Features include a powered black convertible soft top, a red convertible top boot, a broad grille, a wrap-around windshield, quad headlights, fender skirts, and chrome body-side trim, bumpers, and faux vents as well as a rear alcove that houses triple taillights on each side. The body is said to have been stripped and refinished, the exterior trim was re-chromed, and the stainless trim was polished. The convertible top, top motor and hoses, rocker panels, windows, tail lamps, antennas, door handles, and side mirrors were reportedly replaced during the time of the refurbishment.
The 14″ steel wheels wear spinner-style covers and are mounted with 205/75 Coker Classic whitewall tires that were reportedly installed in 2022. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted drums at all four corners. The chassis is said to have been stripped and refinished during the time of the refurbishment, and the suspension bushings, brake lines, ball joints, springs, wheel bearings, wheel cylinders, and shock absorbers were replaced under previous ownership, according to the seller.
The cabin features bench seats reupholstered in red vinyl with tri-tone cloth inserts. Equipment includes a heater and defroster, a lockable glovebox, an electric clock, vent windows, and a push-button AM radio. The replacemet floor pan, door panels, trunk floor, weather stripping, carpets, seat padding and covers, seat belts, and speakers are said to have been installed during the time of the refurbishment.
The two-spoke steering wheel has a chrome horn ring and frames a sweeping 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature as well as a dash-mounted ignition switch. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 1,500 miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 348ci Turbo Thrust V8 is said to have been bored .060″ over and rebuilt under previous ownership. The crankshaft was also polished at that time, and a Comp Cams camshaft was installed. The fuel tank and fuel lines were replaced and the three Rochester carburetors were refurbished in 2022. Additional work reportedly included reconditioning the connecting rods and radiator, and replacing the following components:
- Pistons and piston rings
- Oil pump
- Timing chain and gears
- Valve springs, keepers, and seals
- Pushrods
- Lifters
- Water pump
- Engine mounts
- Radiator hoses
An engine block stamp number is shown above.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a three-speed manual transmission. The flywheel was reportedly resurfaced, and the clutch plate, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing, and exhaust system are said to have been replaced.
A list detailing work performed during the refurbishment has been provided by the seller and is displayed in the gallery. Manufacturer’s literature, service records, and an issue of Super Chevy magazine featuring the car are included in the sale.
