This 1958 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe is finished in gold over gold vinyl upholstery and is powered by a 348ci Turbo Thrust V8 paired with a Turboglide three-speed automatic transmission. Features include power steering, a dual exhaust system, power drum brakes, 14″ steel wheels with polished covers, whitewall tires, an electric clock, and a push-button AM radio. The car is said to have spent time in Kansas before being acquired in 1992 by the seller’s father-in-law, who subsequently commissioned a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment that was completed in 2000. This first-generation Impala is now offered with assembly manuals, two keys, two 1958 Colorado license plates, two 1956 California license plates, binders of photos and periodicals, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The car has been refinished in Anniversary Gold and features include a broad grille, a wrap-around windshield, quad headlights, and chrome body-side trim, faux vents, and bumpers as well as Impala badges, alcoves that house triple taillights on both sides, and a dual-outlet exhaust system that exits below the rear bumper. Photos showing blemishes in the paint can be viewed in the gallery.
Steel 14″ wheels wear polished covers and are mounted with G78-14 Candy-Classic Cushion-Aire whitewall tires. A full-size spare is mounted in the trunk. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted drums at all four corners.
The cabin features bench seats upholstered in gold vinyl with tri-tone cloth inserts joined by a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Features include a heater and a defroster, a locking glovebox, an electric clock, front lap belts, vent windows, and a push-button AM radio. The seller notes that the clock is disconnected to prevent draining the battery during storage.
A two-spoke steering wheel with a chrome horn ring frames a sweeping 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature as well as a dash-mounted ignition switch. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 93k miles, approximately 2,500 of which were added by the seller’s family. Total mileage is unknown. Chips and nicks are noted on the steering wheel rim finish.
The 348ci Turbo Thrust V8 breathes through a four-barrel carburetor and a black-single inlet air intake system. Output was factory rated at 250 horsepower and 355 lb-ft of torque. The engine was reportedly overhauled during the refurbishment.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Turboglide three-speed automatic transmission.
Decoding the body plate identification tag reveals the car was built in 1958 in Saint Louis, Missouri, as a Two-Door Hardtop Sport Coupe finished in Onyx Black and trimmed in gray, black, and turquoise vinyl and cloth.
