This 1958 Chevrolet Impala was acquired by the current owner from an estate sale in 2016 and is finished in Fathom Blue over a matching blue interior. Power is provided by a 348ci Turbo-Thrust V8 that is mated to a 700R4 automatic with overdrive. The complete motor was rebuilt in the 90’s, while the top end was rebuilt in the past two years. Work was performed by the current owner, who is a mechanic. Additional maintenance included the installation of a modern radiator, front disc brakes, and sorting the A/C system. This Impala is now being offered on behalf of the current owner with a clean Florida title.
Impala models were the top-of-the-line offering of the Chevrolet Bel Air lineup and were introduced for the 1958 model year to commemorate GM’s 50th year of production. Styling cues unique to the 1958 models included deeply sculpted rear fenders housing three taillights on each side, faux side vents, quad headlights, and bright rocker moldings and trim.
This example is finished in Fathom Blue, which was offered on 1958 GM models. Front disc brakes have been added by the current owner, and the 16″ Rally wheels wear Goodyear Eagle GT rubber.
The cabin features an interior trimmed in blue vinyl upholstery with cloth inserts and matching carpets. Additional photos capturing the condition of the rear seats, trim, and interior surfaces are included in the gallery.
Power is provided by a standard 250 horsepower version of the 348ci Turbo-Thrust V8, which features a 4-barrel carburetor and is back by a 700R4 automatic transmission with overdrive. Following his purchase, the current owner performed a complete top-end rebuild of the engine along with a rebuild of the 4-barrel carburetor and installation of a modern radiator. A top and bottom-end engine rebuild was reportedly performed in the 1990’s.
Several lift shots are included in the gallery that display the condition of the undercarriage. The Impala employed an “X” frame over the standard perimeter-type frame used on other models, resulting in increased torsional rigidity and lower placement of the passenger compartment.
