This 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air is a two-door hardtop that reportedly stayed with the same family for 25 years before the selling dealer acquired it from an estate sale six months ago. It is described as an example in largely original specifications and is powered by a 283ci V8 and 2-speed Powerglide transmission. In June 2017 a full inspection and mechanical service was performed as detailed below, and the car is now being offered with a clean Ohio title in the dealer’s name.
The seller states that this Bel Air has had various areas of paintwork throughout the years but has never been fully repainted. Chrome is said to be free of pitting and no evidence of prior body damage or structural repairs have been found. One area of bubbling is present on the lower front corner of passenger door as highlighted in the photo gallery below.
A Continental tire kit has been added as shown above. Rolling stock consists of factory wheels/hubcaps wrapped in wide whitewall tires. During the June 2017 service the brakes were adjusted and the fluid was flushed.
Everything is said to be stock aside from an aftermarket radio in the factory location. The original unit is included as displayed in the photo gallery below. The odometer displays 6,569 miles and the seller believes it has turned once, though total mileage is unknown.
The two-tone interior features bench seats front and rear.
The 283ci V8 was reportedly built in the Janesville, Wisconsin plant and is believed to be original to this chassis. It is paired to a 2-speed Powerglide transmission that is said to shift well. The June 2017 service consisted of an oil and filter change, new coolant and differential fluid, setting the points and timing, replacing a front pump bushing, installing new front transmission and converter seals, and adjusting the transmission lash. This Bel Air is reported to maintain temperature well and cruise straight at 65 mph. The original door jamb VIN tag is present per the photo gallery, but the firewall data plate is missing.
Underneath, this Chevrolet is said to be solid overall. The transmission still has a leak after the recent reseal, and the seller has provided several pictures of factory stampings.
