This 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air sport coupe was acquired by the seller’s late husband in 2002 and subsequently was refurbished with work that included installing a 350ci V8 paired with a Turbo 350 three-speed automatic transmission, refinishing the exterior in purple, and reupholstering the interior in gray leather. Other equipment includes a lowered suspension, Foose 17″ wheels, Flowmaster dual exhaust, four-wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, and a cassette stereo. Originally manufactured in Los Angeles, California, this two-door Bel Air hardtop is now offered with refurbishment records and an Idaho title in the seller’s name.
The body was repainted in its current shade of purple during a refurbishment that is said to have spanned from 2003 to 2008. Features include chrome trim and bumpers, a hood ornament, “Bel Air” badges, and polished exhaust exits.
Polished Foose 17″ five-spoke wheels are mounted with 225/50 Ohtsu Zexius Xi326 tires showing 2007 date codes. Braking is provided by discs at all four corners. During the refurbishment, the suspension was modified to achieve a 2″ lowered ride height using tubular upper and lower control arms along with front spindles and rear lowering blocks.
The cabin features bench seats that were reupholstered in gray leather during the refurbishment along with matching door panels and a body-color dashboard. Equipment includes air conditioning, a cassette stereo with an auxiliary input, an analog clock, a lockable glovebox, polished trim, front vent windows, a Hurst shifter, and carpeted floor mats.
A three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel is mounted on a chrome column and fronts instrumentation consisting of a tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges. The replacement digital odometer shows 7k miles, and true chassis mileage is unknown.
The replacement 350ci V8 was installed during the refurbishment and features an aluminum radiator and polished components.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Turbo 350 three-speed automatic transmission. A Flowmaster dual exhaust system was fitted during the refurbishment, and additional underside photos are presented in the gallery. The Chevrolet serial number tag has been painted over and the numbers are illegible.
