This 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air is a two-door sedan that was purchased in 1997 by the seller’s father, reportedly from its original owner. The car was subsequently refurbished as a father-son project with rust repairs, a repaint in blue and white, a new interior, and installation of a 327ci V8 and a TH350 automatic transmission. Other modifications include lowered suspension, power steering and front disc brakes, an aftermarket gauge cluster, and a hidden CD player. Under 500 miles have been driven since completion of work, and the heater control valve was replaced in early 2020. This Bel Air is offered with an owner’s manual, its removed stock steering wheel and speedometer, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
Originally finished in Glacier Blue and Shoreline Beige (614), the body was chemically stripped before undergoing extensive rust repairs and a two-stage repaint in its current metallic blue and white. The seller notes that a stainless grille was fitted and the stock single-piece chrome bumper has been retained. Work was completed circa 2000 according to the seller.
The car has been lowered with dropped spindles in the front and leaf springs in the rear. Steel 15″ wheels wear Bowtie hubcaps and 225/70 Michelin radial tires. Front and rear sway bars, a rear shock-mount crossmember, and KYB gas shocks were installed during the refurbishment along with power-assisted steering and front disc brakes.
The cabin is trimmed in white vinyl with blue piping over front and rear bench seats, which were both equipped with lap belts. Blue carpets line the floors. The body-colored steel dash wears Bowtie-themed inserts and houses a period radio and clock, with the seller noting that the latter is inoperative.
A billet steering wheel frames an aftermarket gauge cluster. The seller states that less than 500 miles have been driven since work was completed in 2000, and total mileage is unknown. A Clarion CD player mounted below the front seat plays through Sony speakers in the rear parcel shelf and Kenwood tweeters under the dash. A refurbished stock steering wheel and combination gauge are included in the sale.
The replacement 327ci Chevrolet V8 was reportedly rebuilt during the refurbishment and features an Edelbrock Performer four-barrel carburetor and aluminum intake manifold as well as finned Corvette rocker covers. Ram’s horn exhaust manifolds feed a dual exhaust system with MagnaFlow mufflers and an H-pipe. New plumbing and wiring were fitted during the refurbishment, and the heater control valve was replaced in April 2020.
A three-speed TH350 automatic transmission routes power to the rear wheels. The seller notes rust on several fasteners and the front brake calipers. Additional pictures of the underbody can be viewed in the gallery below.
The Fisher body tag shows the original paint and trim codes, and the VIN indicates that the body was originally manufactured in the Oakland, California plant. An owner’s manual is included in the sale. The video below shows a warm engine start and driving footage.
