This 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air two-door sedan is finished in black primer and powered by a 400ci V8 mated with a TH200-4R four-speed automatic transmission and a 9-inch rear axle with a spool differential. Features include tilt-forward steel front bodywork, a solid front axle, front disc brakes, rear ladder bars and coilovers, slotted mag-style wheels, a Weiand hi-rise intake manifold, a Demon four-barrel carburetor, MSD ignition, Dart Iron Eagle cylinder heads, Hooker headers, and a dual side outlet exhaust with cut-outs. The car was acquired by the seller in 2008 as an unfinished project, and subsequent work consisted of installing the engine, transmission, rear axle, interior, and suspension. This Bel Air is offered at no reserve in Massachusetts with a New Hampshire title in the name of the seller’s company.
The body is finished in black primer with “Bad Larry” lettering and sponsorship-style decals. The front bumper was removed, and equipment includes tilt-forward steel front bodywork, a chrome rear bumper, orange acrylic windows, a side-exit exhaust system, and radiused rear fenders. An exterior push-pull battery kill switch is mounted to the right taillamp. The windshield wipers are missing, and the headlamps, taillamps, and turn signals do not work.
Five-slot mag wheels are mounted with staggered Mickey Thompson Sportsman tires. The car is fitted with a raised solid front axle, boost shock absorbers, front and rear leaf springs, and rear ladder bars. Braking is handled by hydraulic front discs and rear drums. The frame is coated in POR15 and the seller reports that areas of the body bracing are weak.
The cabin features black vinyl-covered Jaz racing bucket seats joined by a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes a Hurst floor-mounted shifter, roof-mounted engine control switches, hand-crank windows, and safety belts. The seller notes that the outer body mounts are rusted through, and the trunk pan has pinholes and corrosion.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a sweeping 110-mph speedometer. Gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and vacuum pressure are mounted to the cowl. The five-digit odometer shows 26k miles. Total mileage is unknown.
The 400ci V8 was reportedly bored .030″ over and installed during current ownership. Features include a Weiand hi-rise intake manifold, Demon four-barrel carburetor, MSD ignition, Dart Iron Eagle cylinder heads, Hooker headers, Mickey Thompson finned valve covers, and a Griffin aluminum radiator with an electric fan. Work in 2021 is said to have consisted of replacing the battery, adjusting the valves, replacing the fuel filter, and performing an oil change. A Jaz 10-gallon fuel cell along with the battery are mounted in the trunk.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a TH200-4R four-speed automatic transmission and a 9-inch rear axle with a spool differential. Additional features include a manual valve body, high-stall torque converter, Strange Engineering axles, and a custom 3″ driveshaft. A side-outlet exhaust system with Cherry Bomb mufflers and cut-outs is installed.
The New Hampshire title lists a “Not Actual Mileage” brand and the VIN tag is partially illegible.
