This 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air is a resto-modded example of the first-year “Tri-Five” Chevy which features a later small block V8 and 700R4 automatic transmission. The seller is handling the sale on behalf of his 83 year old father who drives the car to breakfast on Saturday mornings every week. Other modifications include a Vintage Air setup, Flaming River Power Steering, power brakes with front discs, and a modest suspension drop. The car carries a clean California title in the current owner’s name.
According to the seller the paint and bodywork are in very good condition with no rust or filler. A few dark-colored defects are present on the hood, though they are not visible in photographs. The car sits lower with 1″ drop springs at the front, and an approximately 3″ thick aluminum lowering block on the rear leaf springs. New shocks reside at all four corners.
The bodywork is straight with good panel gaps. The seller notes some weak spots in the chrome, though they are hard to capture in photos.
The interior features black cloth seating front and rear, with black vinyl on the doors and headliner. A vintage-style radio is fitted, though it does not power up. Other interior alterations include a later tilt-steering column with aftermarket wheel, and auxiliary gauges slung below the dash. The Vintage Air setup blows cold.
Note the cool machined metal dash fascia made up of Chevy emblems. There is some light oxidation on the interior trim, and some scratches are present on the painted dash.
The trunk is nicely finished, and includes a spare tire cover.
The engine carries number 3970010, which indicates that it is either a 327 or a 350 block. A cast iron intake manifold is topped by a single carburetor, and the exhaust features “Ram Horn” manifolds. The power-assisted brakes have been upgraded with a dual circuit master cylinder feeding front discs and rear drums. The engine bay is tidy and the Vintage Air hardware is nicely integrated.
The underside of the car is clean and straight with a new looking exhaust. The seller provides a detailed photo gallery below.
